WE THE PEOPLE, DEMAND that the act of GERRYMANDERING is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and MUST be ABOLISHED PERMANENTLY. While Congress recently took measures to limit these acts, the people ENSURE that by this petition, laws against Gerrymandering are to be ENFORCED, and congressional districts to be REDRAWN fairly and indefinitely. Gerrymandering is the act of REDRAWING congressional districts in UNUSUAL SHAPES in order to GAIN AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE during elections for a SPECIFIC POLITICAL PARTY. The people STRESS that such laws may be IGNORED, and with it comes the ENDANGERMENT of a FAIR election as well as our BASIC FREEDOMS. EVIDENCE of such INFRINGEMENTS UPON OUR LIBERTIES include but are not limited to: North Carolina's 12th Congressional District and Louisiana's 4th Congressional District.
