I believe that continual use of stopgap budget measures is actively harming the American political process. I understand that the sequestration represents a great deal of pain for most Americans, but the repeated debates on the budget have been fruitless and have lead to nothing but increasing deficits and further bickering.
Sequestration was put into the most recent compromise bill as a means of putting a hard stop to the unsustainable rate of debt increases. It is unpalatable, but it may be the only way to actually force substantive and productive negotiations between the parties.
The current state of our political discourse is, in part, a result of the tendency to delay issues as long as possible, and I believe that biting the bullet in this instance might help break that habit.
