The federal minimum wage for tipped wage workers, i.e. waitstaff, is $2.13 an hour and it has been for decades without change. Although Congress raised the minimum wage to $7.25 years ago, the wage for tipped workers has remained stagnant. That is unacceptable. It's true that clientele subsidizes the remainder, but some nights many waiters and waitresses go home with sore feet and nothing in the bank. That is unacceptable. It's a modest increase per hour now, but that goes a long way at the end of the year and for future minimum wage increases. Set and link the federal minimum wage for tipped workers to at least 50% of the federal minimum wage for regular workers now so that future increases are automatic and contained in the same legislation.
