The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is an iconic wilderness area. This area is clearly America's Serengeti; home to vast herds of caribou, other arctic wildlife and critical nesting grounds for millions of migratory birds. It has been a political target by oil and gas companies for many years and deserves immediate protection from future energy exploration. This is one of America's greatest environmental treasures. Protection of this area is not only a moral or ethical issue, but also one that considers the present and future well-being of this country's environmental resources, decreasing environmental impacts that cause global warming and protecting our country's rich natural heritage.
