Permanently Solve the Nation's Budgetary Problems by Introducing Real Price Competition to the Health Care Market.

Created by P.T. on July 26, 2015

There is no price transparency in health care and the payer is different from the person receiving the service. As a result there is no real price competition. Optional services such as Lasik are subject to market forces, and the resulting combination of quality and affordability are remarkable. In a normal market, some providers will take a low cost high volume strategy. However, in health care the people who choose providers have no visibility into price and the deductible is the same every they go. As a result, lowering prices does not bring in more volume, and there is effectively no reason to go lower. One way to solve the problem is to rate providers' cost schedule on a scale of 1 to 10, and tie insurance plans and/or deductibles to those ratings. It could save trillions.
