This is a petition to permanently stop all pay raises of senators and congressmen and place these officials on the same health care and retirement plans that American citizens are on. Ever since 1990 when pay raises for senators and congressmen started, there has been a general downward trend in work done, as measured in bills signed into law. 650 bills were signed into law during the 101st Congress when the pay raises started, while the 112th Congress has only passed 219 bills, and no Congress between the two signed more than 650 bills. While members of Congress voted not to get a pay raise for the past 2 years, they still have to vote for a pay raise to not happen. This is not right and the American people should be the judge of whether or not government officials receive a pay raise.
