Registered Dietitians (RDs) are not currently covered by all insurance policies and almost no Medicare/Medicaid, unless under extreme health circumstances. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, I am petitioning President Obama to include RDs in health care coverage, to better provide for all patients, regardless of their income. Registered Dietitians are health care professionals who must have (at minimum) a bachelor's degree in Nutrition from an accredited college, 2 years of internship under a licensed RD, and must pass a national exam for certification. As deaths due to diabetes, cancer, obesity, and many other nutrition-based illnesses continue to rise, we need to allow all people access to professionals skilled in preventing/treating illness through healthy nutrition.
