HHS and the FDA have permitted OTC (over the counter) access to emergency contraception for women. They denied this right to teens.
Teens are specifically the group with the highest risk for unplanned sexual intercourse, leading to unplanned unprepared pregnancy. These often lead either to serious life disruptions with a possible permanent reduction in education and productivity for the parent and ineffective parenting for the child, or abortion.
This group has the lowest access to reproductive health care. Emergency contraception has been shown to prevent pregnancy, but is extremely time sensitive. Lifting the ban will cause a decrease in abortions for teens, the group at highest risk. We are for lifting this restriction as we are pro-freedom, pro-health, pro-life or pro-choice.
