In July 2012 the Obama administration gutted the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act from 1996. This “reform” removed the five year limit on welfare. This should be changed back with some additional requirements. There should be a five year plan with a one year maximum extension. There should be a career and educational progression system. There will be a mandatory community service requirement in order to receive assistance. The current program is enabling dependence on the government. This government needs to go back to an end goal of becoming self-reliant. The food stamp program should be replaced by efficient and effective tracking software. These changes decrease spending and increase tax revenue.
