Persuade Congress to pass a law or Constitutional Amendment allowing gay marriage

Created by A.S. on February 07, 2013

The United States Constitution

AMENDMENT XIV

"...no state shall deprive any citizen of life, liberty, or property without due process of law..."

There are some who say gay marriage is a state issue. History shows us that slavery was also a state issue. So was segregation in the South...while the rights of states are important to the principles of the Union, the rights of the people are and always have been more important. The majority of people in the Southern states disagreed with desegregation in the 1950s and 60s, just as the majority of people in many states today disagree with gay marriage. There is a point at which securing rights for a minority is more important than respecting the opinion of the majority, and that point has been reached today.
