1.) Unlock phones subsidized by the carrier. These phones are subsidized usually to entice consumers to enter into a lengthy contract.
2.) Unlock phones for account holders who have paid the ETF (Early Termination Fee) which is usually $350 or more.
3.) Unlock Phones on accounts for which the account holder has completed the term of the contract.
All of these requests are fundamentally fair. We purchase these phones usually with a two-year contract in order to benefit from the reduce prices. Once that contract is finished or the account holder has paid back the subsidy via the ETF, the consumer should have the right to use the phone on any carrier they choose. This stifles competition and after market use. The only stakeholder that benefits are the major carriers.
