Before president Reagan took office, college was virtually free to attend in California for qualifying college students; no tuition, just a few student fees. In present time tuition for college is soaring, eliminating the opportunity of higher education for many Americans.
According to studies, the United States is falling behind other industrialized countries when comparing PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) scores. Our education system is failing and we are falling behind. We need to think about our future now before it is too late. If we abolish tuition for colleges, we open up the opportunity for everybody to receive higher education regardless of financial situation. We need equal opportunity amongst everyone at pursuing a higher education in this country.
