Petition to ban the raising, harvesting, and sale of genetically modified salmon in the United States.

Genetically modified salmon, under the name Aqua Advantage, are up for approval by the FDA. The Salmon grow faster than their natural counterparts and exhibit behavior that is different from other salmon such as lack of fear, different eating habits as they consume up to five times the normal amount of a natural fish, and are not completely sterile (99%) which could allow escape into the wild and displacement of natural species. The modified fish also has a disturbing amount of a condition known as jaw erosion, which leads to higher mortality rate among the fish causing the need to dispose of thousands of pounds annually of carcasses. We are petitioning the President of the United States to block the sale of genetically modified salmon by way of executive order.
