Petition to bring gender equality to the requirement of signing up for Selective Service.
Petition to bring gender equity to the requirement of signing up for Selective Service.
Currently, most male U.S. citizens and male immigrant non-citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are required by law to have registered within 30 days of their 18th birthdays.
Registration for Selective Service is also required for various federal programs and benefits, including student loans (such as FAFSA), job training, federal employment, and naturalization.
With the acceptance of women into combat arms positions within the US Department of Defense, the argument that Selective Service should only apply to males due to the inability of women to handle the stressors of direct combat is no longer applicable.
