In order for our democracy to function properly, we need to have access for all to participate. Creating a Federal Holiday of Election Day would allow many individuals who would otherwise not vote, the chance to express their views through the ballot box. Many sources, including the Washington Post, have shown that a plurality of voters don't vote because they are "too busy". Having Election Day become a Federal Holiday will allow those busy individuals the chance to get out and get their voices heard. According to electproject.org, voter turnout hasn't been above 70% since 1900. If more people are able to get out and vote, they will be able to drive changes in government rather than lamenting about its state.
