My son and I were working on a 6th grade writing project about holidays in August. Currently there is no holiday in August so we came up with a fictional holiday, Art Friday. We created traditions that could take place on Art Friday and the more we worked the more we wondered why there wasn't such a day already. Art has been a vital part of human history, and American history since well before the country's inception The holiday would take place on the second Friday in August and would be a celebration of art in all it's forms. Theatre, music, paint, sculpture, and other expressions that we as people love. A tradition could be to hold an art festival lasting the weekend in each of the state capitals, where a single piece could be chosen to display in the capital building.
