A petition has arisen on this site to designate the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church [aka the Catholic Church] as a "hate group".
This is ridiculous as its comparing the Church to the cult known as Westboro Baptist "church" which goes to funerals all over the place saying extremely hateful and highly-bigoted things near the deceased's loved ones. This is a group that has protested at Catholic Church parishes as well, including one in Newtown, CT in light of the recent massacre there.
By the logic of opposing homosexual relationships, most Christian, Islamic and many other religious groups should be considered "hate groups".
The Catholic Church does all sorts of good for the sick, the poor, the oppressed, and promoting peace [but not Westboro], and yet the Church is a hate group?
