Native Americans have endured eradication from new diseases, wars, mass relocation, slavery, and mistreatment in the hand of the American in since the arrival of Columbus. Today most tribes have been wiped out, while the rest live among reservations as a "sovereign" nation or assimilated in the the rest of American cultures. Currently the State of California is the only state recognizing a day for Native Americans, I would like to see a Federal recognition set aside for the Native Americans. I hope that with this petition we can highlight the achievements and struggles for the Native Americans and the history and give them the recognition they should have had. I feel that is there can be a "Black History Month" there should be a day in commemoration the Native Americans as well.
