We the people call on the White House to free natural hair braiders from oppressive state laws that prohibit them from earning a living without an expensive cosmetology license, which does not include instruction for this art form. Whereas African braiding is an ancestral legacy that existed thousands of years before America was founded & whereas African people living in America have endured centuries of oppression specific to their hair texture, styles & maintenance, we petition the White House to end this oppression by freeing natural hairstylists to braid, loc & twist. Currently, only 11 states allow braiders limited freedoms. We solemnly implore President & First Lady Obama to support The BraidOn.org Movement & lift state sanctions to free braiders to practice & teach in all 50 states.
