Petition to have the President and the Vice President DIRECTLY elected by the voters.

Created by S.H. on March 28, 2014

The most revered positions to hold in this country is, of course, the president and the vice president. However, these positions are not directly chosen by the voters. Instead, these positions are chosen by the "electors" of the electoral college, who make their decisions BASED on popular vote. Well, it doesn't always end up that way does it? 1824 John Quincy Adams, 1876 Rutherford B. Hayes, 1888 Benjamin Harrison, and most recently, 2000 George W. Bush, are four of our previous presidents who won the election without having won popular vote. The electoral college is only called upon by the Constitution as a safety net, for the founding fathers were skeptical of a direct democracy. Given this time and day, each American capable of voting should count equally towards the final decision.
