Petition to initiate repeal of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Created by D.B. on December 19, 2012

The Second Amendment was sensible, given the economic and political circumstances of the late 18th century. However, since then, firearms technology has advanced in ways the Founding Fathers never could have imagined. Unregulated, private gun ownership no longer makes any sense. It's worse than foolhardy; it's downright lethal to citizens safety, as recent events have clearly shown. Furthermore, since the United States of America has the largest and most powerful military force in human history, nobody can seriously argue that a "well armed militia" is still necessary for the "security of a free state." Repealing this antiquated amendment would allow Congress, along with State and Local governments, to enact reasonable firearms regulations that make sense in their own time and place.
