The Petition for a National Holiday to Honor America's Home Front

Created by J.K. on July 05, 2015

Ladies and Gentlemen of our Republic,

The monumental sacrifices of American soldiers have long been sanctified, and rightly so, by several national holidays. There is no corresponding national holiday to honor the mothers, fathers, spouses and children to whom those soldiers bade farewell in the service of our nation.

They sent their loved ones to face fire. They encouraged. They conducted the scrap metal drives, bought the war bonds and made the best meals their ration stamps allowed. They kept things going at the dinner table, on the baseball diamond and in the factory. They asked little in return except a speedy end to conflict. They hoped and prayed never to face the vacant chair in the conflict's aftermath.

We petition for a holiday in their honor to be called Home Front Day.
