THE RESIDENTS OF MIAMI petition Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, as well as other governmental entities to open a Trauma Center at West Kendall Baptist Hospital for the residents of west Kendall and surrounding cities geared towards lowering the preventable death rate by speeding up the delivery of trauma care patients during the critcal initial 60 minutes after a life threatening severe and crippling injury. As in the case of Cristina Gomez, while jogging she fell off a ramp into the hard concrete floor fracturing her skull, lacerations to face, fractures to vertebrae, ribs and legs. Instead she was taken to a trauma center 21 minutes/8.3 miles away, had Kendall West Baptist had a Trauma Center she would have been there in 5 minutes/2.03 miles but instead she fell into a coma.
