This petition is to protect gun owners and their rights, including the ownership of an ar 15 and similar rifles.

The AR 15 platform is shrouded in misconceptions. The majority of the aspects of this gun are purely cosmetic and for comfort. It is not a military grade weapon. In fact, according to the FBI crime statistics, long rifles, including the AR-15, account for one of the least amount of firearms related deaths. Handguns are the highest ranking in that category. No one ever disucsses the exponentially higher number of deaths caused by irresponsible drivers, but no one goes to the car companies demanding they ban those cars for killing people, because they don't. People kill people. Guns are as inanimate as cars. Without an irresponsible operator a gun is not harmful and banning these weapons will not stop terrorism or gun violence in the slightest.
