We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Petition to repeal the Dickey amendment banning the CDC from conducting research on gun related crimes.

Created by J.S. on June 30, 2016

Since 1996, the CDC has not been able to conduct research on gun related deaths in the United States because of the Dickey Amendment. Since that time, 32,000 deaths occur each year as a result of purposeful or accidental gunfire. Because of a lack of unbiased information on gun crime, every mass shooting is politicized by both parties and Congress remains unable and unwilling to even have an honest and informed debate. We demand that the CDC be allowed to research this epidemic so our elected officials have all of the necessary information to inform their opinions and positions.
