This petition is to request that all Police Agencies be trained in how to handle situations that involve Mental Health.

1 in 4 adults in the United States is effected by a Mental Disorder. According to NPR, 1/4 of all fatal shootings by a police officer involve an individual who suffers from a mental illness. Police officers are afraid of what they don't understand, and fear clouds their judgement. To help them better serve us as citizens, they should receive the same amount of training in regards to mental health and how to handle these situations as the training they receive for the use of force. Police officers are human, and accidents happen, but with the proper training , the number of deaths of those who are effected by mental illness via police shootings will decrease. We should not have to fear those who are there to serve us. Thank you.
