In 2014, Saudi Arabian journalist Raif Badawi was found guilty of blasphemy after creating a free speech website on which he allegedly insulted Islam. He was sentenced to 1000 lashes and 10 years in prison. As he has hypertension, he is believed to not be able to survive the punishment. He will also be sentenced to death if found guilty of apostasy. His wife and children, who are creating numerous petitions to save him, are in asylum in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
