The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (Brady Law) first passed in 1993, requiring criminal background checks. Since then, online sales have become dangerous and private firearm sales are exempt from the law.
A bill was introduced in 2013 to close the loophole and lost by 6 Congressional votes.
When private sellers don’t run background checks, people known to
