The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) have been very effective in portraying themselves as victims, pointing to how Morsi had been “democratically” elected and that the army “coup” was a major setback to democracy. Morsi was elected (by 16%) “democratically” in 2012, based on a promise to include all faiths. Morsi appointed former MB leaders to key posts. In Nov 2012, he illegally gave himself new sweeping powers to act without censure, and steamrolled a new pro-Islamic constitution despite protests from liberals, moderate Muslims and Christians. Only the army had the power to re-start the democratic process, so by popular demand and with due notice the army did remove Morsi, and protected anti-Morsi protestors. We petition this administration to commend the Egyptian military and condemn the MB.
