The purview of this commission:
To educate all Americans about the many ways in which African Americans have been marginalized, abused, and exploited throughout our history, including Jim Crow, red-lining, building freeways through black neighborhoods, the school-to-prison pipeline, etc.
To examine the complicity of our Federal and Local Governments - whether active or passive - in these post-emancipation racist laws and policies.
To examine the benefits enjoyed by white Americans at the expense of black Americans, from slavery to the present.
To educate all Americans about the ongoing impact of racism on individuals and society today.
To propose concrete methods by which these wrongs can be righted, and through which our nation might, at long last, heal this terrible wound.
