Petition the UN Human Rights Council to investigate the expulsion by the Dominican Republic of its "stateless" citizens.

Created by J.H. on June 26, 2015

The Dominican Republic has in recent weeks begun the process of forcibly deporting and expelling citizens born in the DR, but who lack the proper credentials to prove their DR citizenship. Most of the people are Haitians or children born of Haitian parents, who have known no other country other than the DR. One recent report indicated that as many as 60,000 children born in the DR, but who have been denied proper birth records, will be forcibly removed from the country. Many of the adults and children do not have citizenship in Haiti or the DR, and are, therefore, "stateless." Many have referred to these actions by the DR as a form of ethnic or racial cleansing, in that virtually all of the persons targeted are Black. Such actions have no place in the modern international community.
