petition UNESCO to designate Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zions National Parks in Utah as World Heritage Sites.

UNESCO World Heritage sites in the western United States include Mesa Verda National Park, Chaco Canyon, Taos Pueblo, Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon National Park, Olympic National Park, and Carlsbad Caverns. But there are no similar designations for unique natural wonders in national parks in Utah at Zions, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. This is in part because a government entity must petition UNESCO for the designation, and conservative Utah legislators, who seek to have the United States to cede all federal lands in Utah to the State of Utah, will never make such a petition. The President should make such a petition on Utah's behalf and notwithstanding State objections. Designation would promote international tourism, and it would boost Utah's economy.
