While some agribusinesses profit from subsidies for ethanol production, there is a lot of evidence that the programs consume more energy than they produce and that overall, the payback is negative. Their costs exceed their benefits.
Agribusinesses involved in "energy solutions" must clearly show a positive energy and fiscal benefit BEFORE they receive tax dollars.
A phase-out over a period of no more than five years or so would provide ample time for the markets to adjust to the change.
One result will be lower prices for corn and other products for the many people who today can't afford them due to the price and availability impacts of these programs.
