I would like to phase out smoke detectors that chirp when they are low on batteries in favor of ones that glow bright red or another color to let people know it is low on battery. By doing this, sound pollution is decreased in urban areas as well as for suburban areas, especially if you live in close proximity to your neighbor. Another added benefit is it makes changing batteries easier because it will be easier to identify the faulty unit with visual instead of audio cues. Finally, less noise pollution will keep people sensitive to noise made by smoke alarms when there is an actual fire so they are not ignored.
Let’s get rid of these annoyances once and for all for something better for a peaceful and more importantly quieter way of living.
