PHASE OUT the home mortgage interest deduction over the next 10 years!

Created by R.G. on January 18, 2013

Currently the home mortgage interest deduction allows for interest incurred on the first $1.0 million of mortgage debt to be deducted from your tax bill. I propose that we phase out this benefit over time, to avoid the severe short term impact on home prices that would occur if the deduction was removed with immediate effect. Reduce the maximum amount of mortgage debt the deduction covers by $100,000 each year until it reaches zero.
