Phase out single phase power for residential use in favor of 3-phase power to reduce wasted energy.

Created by D.R. on January 13, 2013

It is time to retire single phase power completely because our energy needs will be higher in the coming future and because energy regulations will become more strict in the future to come. With 3-phase power the efficiency is much higher for motors that are 3-phase and because the losses from 3-phase to single phase conversion is not present since the main feeder lines are being tapped for 3-phase to a lower voltage instead of tapping only two of the 3-phases to get single phase power. I suggest future homes be wired for 480 volt, 3-phase power to allow backwards compatibility with single phase devices by using auto-transformers that tap two of the 3-phases. The HVAC system, hot water heater and electric car chargers should be 3-phase at first, then later on other devices should be too.
