We, the undersigned, recognize that no longer should timber be harvested as the sole resource for industrial needs. There is a far more environmentally friendly, less labor and land intensive way of producing the needed materials. Hemp can satisfy our needs for industrial products like paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, construction, and bio-fuel. Hemp (Cannabis sativa) is one of the fastest growing plants we have at our disposal and it requires no chemicals for such growth, yet we have outlawed its production merely incorrect association with its cousin, Cannabis indica. The time has come to re-legalize the production of hemp for industrial purposes. This action will open a brand new industry, spur innovation, improve agricultural diversity, and improve our environment.
