Phase out the use of Bunker fuel at our nation's ports; one container ship emits as much pollution as 50 million cars.

Bunker fuel is an extremely dirty fuel used by large ships such as oil tankers and container ships. It is highly polluting and completely unnecessary, ships can use other fuels. Bunker fuel using ships cause the hazy atmosphere and air pollution around our nation's ports and health problems in those communities. As there is a current surplus of ships, a phase out of Bunker fuel would preference the newest ships to visit America's ports leading to other environmental and safety advantages. Economically this would raise the marginal cost of shipping goods into our ports, but this would have a biasing effect of in favor of local manufacturing versus cheap imported goods. Please sign this petition against the continued use of Bunker fuel and in favor of a gradual phase-out.
