The mental strain of discrimination due to race or gender/sexual identity is enormous. These citizens encounter life stressors exponentially higher than the dominant population. Just as the responsibility to eradicate discrimination rests on the shoulders of those who benefit from it, the cost of mental health care cannot be justly considered the responsibility of those undergoing the debilitating daily ordeal of living in a racist, homo/transphobic culture. The least our government can do to help is to pick up the cost of their mental health bills.
