In this 21st century, as our country continues to grow ever more globally-minded, and less Eurocentric in its ethnic makeup and outlook, the administration's "Pivot to Asia" ought to be a pivot towards listening to Asian needs. To pivot towards US military interests is not a pivot at all - it is what we have been doing all along, ever since Commodore Perry first forced his way ashore in Okinawa in 1853.
The Okinawan people have suffered under US military occupation for far too long, and they have shown their very clear desire that this Occupation end. If we truly stand for freedom and democracy, we must listen to their wishes, and grant them their freedom. Stop construction at Henoko, dismantle Futenma, and stop arresting & mistreating protestors. It has been 70 years. It is time.
