There are various pay plans that federal employees work under. These plans set salaries and pay advancements.
The Federal Employees' Health Benefits (FEHB) system establishes health benefits for federal employees, i.e. what health plans are available and what the cost is.
All federal employees' retirements are controlled by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS establishes minimum requirements to be met to be eligible for retirement, i.e age and length of service.
As elected officials, all federal officials, from the President on down, are essentially federal employees. There needs to be a bill introduced that places elected federal officials under the same rules as the federal civil service work force. All federal employees should be treated equally.
