Place armed National Guard at the funerals of the victims of the Connecticut shooting and outlaw funeral protests.

Created by J.M. on December 16, 2012

It doesn't matter if you are black, white, gay, straight, or an albino with a thing for monkeys; EVERYONE has a right to grieve for the loss of their loved ones. The Westboro Baptist Church and others have already ruined the funerals of many respectful citizens and decent human beings. This petition urges congress to immediately dispatch National Guard members to oversee the funerals of the Connecticut victims, ensuring no interference from the Westboro Baptist Church or other hate-based organizations. As part of a long-term solution, it also suggests that laws are passed to universally ban protests at funerals. This is a viewpoint-neutral, content-based restriction on the freedom of speech, that is neither too broad, nor too vague. Respect for the dead is a universal, age-old idea.
