Prevent a huge step backwards in our energy policy, and the potential destruction of the powerful economic engine that is coastal tourism in the Mid-Atlantic states, by prohibiting the leasing, exploration and exploitation of any oil and gas reserves off of the Eastern Coast of the United States.
The economic gains from such a policy are short-lived and questionable at best, and negative at worst, as anyone who remembers the Gulf Oil Spill can attest. Given the potential of the Atlantic Wind Connector project, the higher employment rate of clean energy versus fossil fuels, the inevitability of carbon taxation making clean energy even MORE profitable, and the influence on Climate Change of burning fossil fuels, the expansion of oil drilling off of the Atlantic Coast is a just bad policy.
