Tax payer dollars are used to assist Americans to obtain means to complete higher education. There should be minimum standards so the American tax payer can see that their tax dollars are used in an efficient manner. There is no need to waste dollars on recipients that fail to achieve in the classroom.
There should be minimum standards that require a minimum of hours that a student should be enrolled, and these hours to be maintained at the minimum level during the entire respective academic period. Also a minimum GPA of 3.0 should be maintained in order to continue to be eligible to received federal financial aid. This includes pell grants and federal guaranteed loans. If the student is not able to comply with these standards, they must wait until the next academic year to reapply
