This petition was written in response to reports of a horrific gang rape of a young Indian woman in New Delhi. Indian women are commonly subject to harassment and sexual violence in their daily lives. The U.S. must take the stance that these conditions are not tolerable and use political and economic pressure to encourage India to enact strict punishments for perpetrators, to provide support for abused women, and establish programs to counter pervasive misogyny.
