February 26th, Trayvon Martin, a Sanford, Florida youth was gunned down while returning home from the store. In his possession was candy and iced tea. He was unarmed.
The shooter, George Zimmerman, a community-watch leader, accosted Martin after reporting his "suspicious" presence to the police. This is after the police explicitly told Zimmerman not to make contact with Martin.
In what has been explained by Zimmerman and the local police as "self-defense," Zimmerman, a civilian with previous charges of battery on an officer, shot and killed the seventeen-year-old.
The failure of Sanford's police and the state of Florida's DA to further investigate the blatant disregard for justice is something that the Obama Administration, without delay, must address.
