Our country faces two crises in the long-term: long term increase in our debt and increased frequency of natural disasters caused by global warming. Why not fight both at once?
By making a fee that reduces the use of those fuels - including coal and oil - and using the revenue to pay off the debt, we both reduce the risk of financial collapse and environmental ruin. Together, we can become better stewards of our environment and our balance sheet.
