Place a large tax on guns and ammo

In order to reduce the threat of mass shootings such as Newtown,Columbine and Aurora place a large tax on guns and ammo. It has worked with cigarettes. The tax on cigarettes is substantially more than the actual product. Create a tax that is say 100% of the actual value. In the case of bullets consider a dollar or more per each. The goal is to make them prohibitively expensive.Police and other official security are of course excluded. Also increase the cost for licensing.
