While in school, most of us were required to take health classes as well as sex education. But other than in early life and at home, when have we learned to use our words and how to best behave. In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, young teens become to be more independent & face more complicated situations. Through a course focused on mental health, students understand their evolving emotions and how to make decisions with confidence. At this age, students are capable of putting what is taught in action
The plan for the class is to use the basics of the four separate modules of DBT developed by Marsha Linehan: Mindfullness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Homework and classwork can come in the form of handouts based on workbooks already created for therapy
