Many individuals from foreign countries violate the sovereign laws of the United States via illegal border crossings, remaining in-country on expired visas, and via other criminal means. These violations pose a continuous threat to the security of the nation, its property, and its people. A five-year moritorium on immigration to this county would give the executive branch of the government the time to process pending deportation actions, help to clear the courts of such actions in a timely manner, provide Congress with the opportunity to devote greater efforts in revising existing immigration laws, and provide time to update immigration control technology so temporary visitors to the country could be electronically tracked from entry through departure.
